Create a VM from Debian 12 ISO

I’m using OpenNebula 5.12.0.4. I’ve been trying to create a VM and install Debian 12 from ISO. I’ve created one disk CDROM with the image, and one empty disk for the OS. The installation progreeses as expected up until setting up the package manager, and then it failes with the following error:

I’ve successfully setup a VM from Ubuntu Server 24.04.1 LTS ISO, and I was expecting to be able the same for Debian 12, but no joy. Has anyone some experience with this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Hello @0x4ndy,

Sorry for the delay in the response, you can try to install Debian 12 on OpenNebula directly from the marketplace: OpenNebula - Marketplace

Check this article, where it explains how to create a VM: https://computingforgeeks.com/import-ubuntu-debian-qcow2-images-opennebula/
Or watch our latest training session, where our colleague Aleks explains basic operations: https://www.youtube.com/live/BTEFCQukNWA

Also, I would suggest to update your OpenNebula platform, since you are using a version from 2020.

Cheers,

Thanks for the answer. Yes, I could, but actually I have similar issues with other debian based systems, such as Kali and Kali Purple. So, I’d rather solve this issue. Any suggestions?

Hi Again,

Sorry, I’ve edited my reply to add more resources, no idea if you were able to read it before your reply.

However, to understand it better, you have issues trying to create a VM from an ISO? If so, perhaps this topic can help: while creating new vm it failures and the error code :255 on Debian 11?

Do you have any other error message aside the screenshot you shared?

Cheers,

This looks like a problem from your ISO, the screenshot error suggest the repo from the CD-ROM has issues. If the machine boots up in OpenNebula, then that is pretty much what OpenNebula is responsible for.

Maybe you have disk space issues ? The screenshot error is not very helpful. Try to somehow get the actual error from apt.
