How to import backed up VM+xml?

So I figured out to backup VMs by saving disk as and exporting the xml.
But how do I import them back in in case I deleted some?

And why isnt there a dedicatd backup and import function? Seems like the most basic feature one would want to.

This is a 6.0 feature only? Cant find it in 5.12 docs
Sadly its’ not a really useful backup feature because it doesnt allow hot backups. Obviously VMs cant be shut down for backup purposes.
