Edit Network driver in KVM host

Hello

All of my machines runs with rtl8139 as default nic hardware and its very slow for me i want to use virtio instead of rtl8139
I have 2 questions :
first for new machines i have to set hardware to virtio manually in template how can i set virtio to default ?

for old machines i have to edit them but if i edit using virsh edit command changes do not apply untill i destroy them then conflicted with opennebula deployment process and machine can not managed with opennebula what can i do then ?
